How to Complete the College Application Activities List

How to Complete the College Application Activities List For all of the first-class treatment applicants give to their Common App essay, the activities list is all too often relegated to steerage. If antiquated steamship analogies do little for you, a more apropos comparison might present the essay as the mean, attention-hogging prom queen in a teen movie, and the activities list as the nice, quiet girl, who also looks like a model, but no one notices because she wears glasses and puts her hair up.You get the point—a poorly crafted activities list is one of the most common issues we encounter when working with students, even those with Ivy-caliber credentials and otherwise flawless applications. Yet, as already alluded to, this list rarely receives appropriate attention from applicants, perhaps because it, rather deceptively, appears to be a fairly rote exercise; more of a chore of filling in boxes than an opportunity to tell a unique and compelling story. In the following article, we provide answers to the many common questions asso ciated with the process including:What activities should I include on my activities list?Which activities should go at the top of the activities list? How do I write a description of an activity? What should I do if I run out of space describing an activity?Does an activities list have to be well written? Our five rules articulated below will get you ready to tackle this often underestimated component of the college application process.Rule #1: Ask—why are you including this activity?Perhaps humans simply possess an unstoppable psychological drive to fill any blank space they see with something, anything. It would certainly explain much of the modern experience: 24-hour news, suburban sprawl, or that one drawer in your kitchen that is overflowing with useless items you can’t bring yourself to throw away (C’mon, you know that Krazy Glue dried out six years ago and what are those watch batteries even for? No one in your house has owned a watch since 2004).A similar c ompulsion rears its head when students see an activities list with ten blank templates. Your first thought is, â€Å"Okay, I’m going to fill these ten spots even if I have to include the ten seconds last week when I picked up a stray Sierra Mist can off of the sidewalk and tossed it in the recycling bin. That can count as volunteer work, right?†When it comes to your activities section, we recommend being judicious with what you include. Having fewer than ten activities is not going to hurt your chances at admission—seriously, we promise. When you start to brainstorm which activities to include on your list, begin by asking:How do I spend my time currently? How have I spent my time throughout high school (both in and outside of school)? What have I done in the past or currently that communicates something about who I am, what I’m proud of, and what I’ve accomplished? The activities that come to mind could include clubs, volunteer work, paid employment, athletics, or musical/artistic/theatrical pursuits. The best activities to include are ones that you’ve engaged with on a regular basis over an extended period of time. For example, volunteering at a soup kitchen for a summer or on a weekly basis through your place of worship should definitely be included; volunteering once for 45 minutes might not make the cut.Rule #2: Understand the order of operations   In math, we remember the order of operations through the presumably embarrassing behavior of our Dear Aunt Sally (please excuse her). To date, no helpful mnemonic exists for the order in which you should list activities on your Common App, yet it is extremely important to master the rules of this game. One frequent move is listing your activities in pure chronological order (or straight reverse chronological order) which is highly problematic. If you were asked to succinctly tell someone a captivating version of your life you wouldn’t lead off with:Baby/Toddler, 2 002-2005 Passed meconium, cried, cried some more, mastered object-permanence, etc.Putting your most important activities first is the way to go. This may flow in something close to a reverse chronological order since the activities that most demonstrate your passion, leadership, and abilities are likely ones that you stuck with over the years. While there may be no hard and fast set of rules telling you to address parenthesis before exponents, there is a correct thought-process to adopt while ordering your activities.Sample thought process†¦Meet Mark. He was the vice-president of his class as a freshman but became disillusioned with the seedy world of high school politics and never participated in student government again. Since his foray into public service ended at age 14, even though his title of VP was impressive, this would make a poor choice to sit atop his list, Mark next turned his attention to the mock trial and tennis teams, both of which he continued through his seni or year. In fact, as a junior, his team qualified for the National High School Mock Trail Championship and he plans to continue debate into college. As a senior, Mark is on the varsity tennis team—he’s not talented enough to be NCAA material but is interested in joining a club team.As we help Mark decide how to order these three activities let’s review some important considerations. We are looking to give preference for activities that†¦You plan to continue in college.Demonstrate commitment and dedication. You have participated in state or national-level competitions (winning something is always a huge bonus).Show off your leadership skills. Are recent. With these rules in mind, we can determine that Mark should put Mock Trial first—it’s something he plans to continue in college, has participated in a national competition, has been involved with for three years and is still, presently doing. Tennis should come second, since he has shown dedicatio n to the sport and may play at a club or intramural level at college. While vice president of his class was the most impressive title he ever held, it was only for one year in 9th grade, making it the clear third place entry in this activities list.Rule #3: Use your limited space wisely A famous, albeit likely apocryphal story, goes like this: Ernest Hemingway is having lunch with his buddies and bets them that he can craft a complete story in six words. He wins by scribbling six words on a napkin: â€Å"For sale: baby shoes, never worn.†Putting aside the earth-shatteringly depressing nature of the story, it is a great example of the power of words in a limited space. Plenty of 100,000 word novels have failed to communicate as much as those six words. Hold yourself to a high standard in this regard and tighten up your sentences. Maximize the impact of what you say through the use of active verbs. Lop off extraneous words and get right to the point. Include pertinent details t hat make your description less generic and better highlight your achievements.Bad Example: Money was raised by my organization when we put on a 24-hour relay leading to many donations to a charity which works to cure pediatric cancer.Improved Example: Organized 24-hour relay, attended by 300+ community members, raised over $6,000 for pediatric cancer research.Rule #4: Use the fields strategically   You only have a precious 150 characters with which to demonstrate your duties and achievements with each activity. Many students make the mistake of restating (or stating for the first time), their role, the name of the organization, or the years in which they participated in the description box. The smarter move is to instead state all of this information in the 50 character â€Å"Activity Name† section and through the checkboxes provided in which to indicate your years of participation.Avoiding redundancy will save you space and allow you to properly flesh out your description of what you actually did that is impressive. Here’s an example of a right and wrong way to execute this strategy:Activity Name: Editor, The Muse Literary MagazineGrades: 10-12Wasteful Activity Description: Edited poems and works of fiction for The Muse, our high school’s literary magazine, from sophomore year to present. As you can see, most of the 150 character space to show-off achievements was wasted with information that was already stated elsewhere. We already know that you were the editor from your title. We already know that you edited The Muse and this is your school’s lit mag.You already checked off that you participated in the activity from 10th-12thBetter Activity Description: Managed staff of seven students in creating monthly periodical; earned First Class Distinction from National Council for Teachers of English in 2018.Rule #5: Don’t ignore the rules of writing For whatever reason, even the sharpest applicants tend to eschew the conventions of good writing. Perhaps it is the similar character count to Twitter that seems to invite a â€Å"covfefe†-like outpouring of poor grammar, awkward syntax, and a display of weak vocabulary. Here are some key things to remember, based on errors we frequently see students make.If you are presently engaged in an activity, use present tense.Don’t get repetitive. There is no shame in Googling synonyms if you have to.Use your normal, intelligent-person vocabulary even if your description is in list form.Proofread your list carefully. It may require multiple reads to catch all of your typos in this unusual format.Final Thoughts Select the school-based and outside activities that say the most about who you are and how you spend your time.Place your activities in an order that highlights your commitment, dedication, talent, and accomplishments. Activities that you are presently engaged with and/or are planning on continuing in college should take precedence.Communicate as much a s you can in limited space. Avoid clunky, space-eating phrases, use active verbs, and replace generic statements with specific details.Take full advantage of the â€Å"Activity Name† field to better utilize your space in the â€Å"Activity Description.†Craft and proofread this section with every bit as much care as your essay.Follow these simple rules and, in the end, your activities list will take off its glasses, let down its hair and become the envy of the whole prom. Oh yeah, and admissions officers will like it too.

Analysis Of The Book The Scarlet Letter - 1404 Words

This novel has a total of 24 chapters, not including the preface and an introduction. The author organizes the novel by starting the reader at the middle of the story, where Hester Prynne is in custody for adultery. Then, the author proceeds to elaborate on how and why Prynne is in her current state and continues in chronological order. In other words, Hawthorne utilizes a narrative structure where the scarlet letter, A, is an extended metaphor that symbolizes a multitude of things: adultery, sin, charity, righteousness, grace, and the danger of merely thinking symbolically. It also compares and contrasts the current states of Prynne, Arthur Dimmesdale, and Arthur Chillingworth. With this, it has a logical progression to the book’s ultimate conclusion. Running Head Leadership in Business

Question: Using relevant theories and models critically evaluate and analyse the leadership of a 21st century leader of a (business, government or not-for-profit) organisation. If you were in the position of the leader, what could you do to be a better leader and make a stronger impact on the followers and on the situation? Answer: Introduction Leaders are the one who are able to lead an organisation. There are always a great evaluation of the qualities which mainly reflect the personality like honesty, and integrity, caring for the youth and better communication skills. These all add up to bring a change in the way of delivering and vouched behaviour to impress the people which is able to deliver and depict the positivity in the attitude. The creative approach to lead the nation has been completely depicted by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. With his existence after coming to power, all his efforts have been to collaborate the nation and try to help all the people in bringing a change in their lives. Many have come and gone but only fake promises have been followed with them. (Haslam et al., 2015). No reliability or no conclusion along with the half work done on clearing the areas have led to change and irresponsible attitude. Leading a nation is not easy but trying to put in the best is the main object where you can Learn, Earn, Access and Direct for a better future. Description Traits of the Leader Being an old yet enthusiastic leader, he is one of those who want to walk with the thoughts and the needs of the common people. To his existence as a BJP leader, his involvement in the Kashmir floods in 2014 and providing rescue to all the areas have successfully been able to manage all the problems at that time. Even though he is not learned and belongs to a small town, but his efforts have been tremendously appraising. His love for the country and the collaboration has led to organisation of a better leading society. His journey from Gujarat to being a leader in New Delhi has only been successful with the ideas he has put in to communicate with the youth. Being considered as the best, he is evaluated on the traits as below: 1. He is the personified personal who is the role model for the public and his work in the politics is mainly to control the powers. He does not include his family everywhere he is able to get the benefits rather try to be a normal person and try to walk with the crowd. 2. Another way to manage his perceiving power and to extract the biggest profit from the best and the tougher times could only prove that he is liberal enough and try to appal all the audience to change as a whole. 3. Priority is the one which makes him different from all leaders. The government is always dismantled if the small positioned ministers are not handled effectively and they are not given a keen loo on their work. The work of cleaning the Ganga River and trains establishment have helped people a lot to mark the right governance in India. (Nilson et al., 2015). 4. Above all the politics in the party, the organisation has been able to maintain a control in the state which is managed as per the organisation. 5. The performance of the parliamentary support has let Modi to reach to an extra-ordinary approach. The speech and the performance has been awe-struck in the crowd with the promises being in effect. His 100 days in power have been so influential that the people are impressed with his nature and the way he is carrying out the organisation. (Parker, 2015). Presently, making relations with the other countries is the major funda, he has focused upon in order to collaborate the ideas and bring the world on a short pace. A grand salute to the person who managed to call Barack Obama, President of United States with a confirmation that there will be a tight security, but it will surely help him to get into better agreements of some major projects. The soul identity to who has tried to step forward and bring the change in the nation is Modi. Controlling the powers, and attacking the smallest reasons which could be major enough to bring into point the agenda of holding why the spark of India lacks when it is presented in other countries. The powers and the way which cause slap-in the big identity to balance the community is possible only when people are able to care about such happenings. India is above all traits or any practices but when it comes to discrimination, it still lacks and equal opportunities are divided in such a way that more non-deserving people receives the best and the deserving candidates have to lack behind. It has been generally seen that whatever promises the leader do, the people appoint him accordingly. But Narendra Modi has been the one who did not do much propaganda rather tried to implement all the work he claimed to get completed and all what was in his hand. This ability to rise above the (Bronstein Fitzpatrick, 2015) fact has been tremendous enough for the people who respect their decision of choosing the correct person. Who is the one who picks by a broom just to clean the roads? Who is the one who is ready to take the first step and try to bring cleanliness to all the places where he is approachable enough? Taking care of his family, health as well as country is a major task. Concentrating on it separately and nicely is a big accomplishment and he has been pursuing his task very well. No leader could bear to get Ganga cleaned as they were not attached with it, but being Modi into action, the first task of his was to provide the nation a great prestige where, the people were able to enjoy the clean Yamuna, Ganga rivers. His strong connection with the kind of work he did is impressive enough and he has been accomplished in doing it to a long extent. Efforts is what one can put into the work and his handful approach has presently led to a beneficial creditability to the rise in the stock share markets. Earlier, as everything was at a hike, it was not easy to carry (Kyaga et al., 2015) out with the organisation properly and so there were problems relating to it. But presently, a common man is able to save his daily savings as the expenditure in the daily products as well as fuel is no so high that he wont be able to afford as per his earning. If these efforts are going to be continued, then people will surely be at benefit and India would be able to rise above all nations in terms of cleanliness and the sanskriti. The traditional (Dimitrov, 2015) outlook is popular in the world but it only lacks in the cultures, it has adopted which are against the normal functioning too. Different leading The Prime Minister has tried to put in his all the efforts which could bring a handful sight of the nation. The collaboration and less of daily issues in the country will surely improve the condition of India in the long run. But since even a small suggestion, one could send to Modi is that he should try to make laws and implement them in the country for people who are always attacking girls. There has been a bad image and unloading of the stiff rules which has made girls so unsafe in the city to travel around. I would completely recommend or put in more efforts to track and configure such technologies which could embrace a change and bring a commotion wherein (Kumar, 2015) the people have the right to move on the roads without any anxiety. The unsafe place for the girls has been a major cause of the concern. Eradicating the parda system and let them live their life should be the main goal as there are still many small towns who are ready to give their small girl child to a boy in ma rriage when they do not know what the tradition is all about. If such happenings continue to be there then, there will be no progress of the nation. Only saying that girls hold equally important position does not bring a right and efficient outlook, one has to mean it and work for better proposals. There are people who are not bothered about this fact rather they continue to be busy in their life. Sometimes considering the birth of the girl child is a blame for all those people where it is not the mistake rather a pretty gift of God bestowed upon some fortunate people. If all this will not change, then there is assurance that people will not have a better outlook and they would pursue will their continuous orthodox minds which would never help in leading a better nation. Holding a reputed position in the country, there are many responsibilities which are inlaid upon a person but the major issues are to be on the top of the list which could make it reasonable enough for the people even to continue with their daily life fearlessly. Being optimistic and confident enough to could complete inspire the leader to take a step forward and think about the girls whether (Hughes et al., 2015) they are equipped with what they have in hand or not. Being responsible enough, the perception to negotiate and balance the practicing could be difficult but important to become a dynamic personality who is ready to take up the responsibility. The management and the perseverance to arrange the public can lead to a big chaos at times but there can be assurance where people will be holding a higher aspect of life attaining a range of time where there is a complete freedom to all. Another idea and implementation which could be done on a smaller side, could be that the people c ould be more brought closer and discriminations which are generally on the caste system must be eradicated. A higher ranker does not get a better position or a college for his graduation just because he belong to a very reputed class rather a failure in school is always a failure at college. He deserves to be in the same position. But the caste system generally has an effect which provides him with the best colleges. These are the reasons which are majorly for the suicidal approach. A lot of people lack so many (Soane et al., 2015) opportunities who could actually bring a lot of change in the normal functioning of the nation. The attempts should be made and people should not be compelled to choose something which is beyond their level. Conclusion Taking a close look, the leader is only one who is able to motivate the crowd and remove the discrepancies which are making people separate. The self-esteem of a person is a major point where experience could lead to extraversion and integrity too. The leaders should access themselves and realise that there is a great response which could lead to perceiving a beauty and setting the goals for effective approaches. Building up a motivational team and communicate with the people to achieve the vision can only be achieved with impressive speeches. Being aware of the leaders and the (Abbasiyannejad Silong, 2015) work that is going around can enhance the productivity as well as empathy which would be a great cause of concern for some. Being honest and bluntly publicise the ideas is only the best pre-planned activity to attract the youth, but how much one can implement is the question of an hour. Islamic Accounting free essay sample

An alternative method to improve fair and just between bank and customer is proposed. 1. Introduction The growth of Islamic financial market and institution create the need for different accounting requirement. This is because Islamic Financial Institution (IFI) has distinctive features from conventional financial institution. The recording not only has to facilitate transactions happen in IFI, but also has to meet Shariah compliant. A lot of issues rose for accounting and control of IFI. One of the issues is accounting basis of income recognition. Islamic accounting can be defined as the â€Å"accounting process† which provides appropriate information to stakeholders of an entity which will enable them to ensure that the entity is continuously operating within the bounds of the Islamic Shariah and delivering on its socioeconomic objectives. Islamic accounting is also a tool, which enables Muslims to evaluate their own accountabilities to God (in respect of interhuman/environmental transactions). 1 1 Shahul Hameed, Accounting and Auditing for Islamic Financial Institution, page. 1 In conventional banks, how they recognise the income does not affect the distribution profit to the depositor. They use interest mechanism, give interest to depositor and receive interest from debtor. Unlike conventional banks, Islamic bank are not operated with interest mechanism. It is operated with buying and selling basis, profit and loss sharing or leasing. It is a financial intermediary between investors and entrepreneurs. How much the depositors will get their return depends on how good Islamic bank generate profit. Therefore, income recognition in Islamic Banks will affect their profit distribution to their depositors because different income recognition basis will give different implication for all the parties involved. Accounting recognition refers to recording the basic element of the financial statements. The concept of accounting recognition define the basic principles that determine the timing of revenue, expense, gain and loss recognition in the bank’s income statement and, in turn, the basic principles that determine the timing of assets and liabilities recognition. The concepts of accounting recognition also determine the timing of recognizing profits and losses resulting from restricted investments in the statement of changes in restricted investments. 2 Currently, there are two basis of recognition in accounting, namely cash basis and accrual basis. The characteristic of each basis will be discussed in the next section. The issue is which one that should be the basis of income recognition from Islamic perspective. 2. Accounting Principles from Islamic Perspective There are three major Islamic principles mentioned in Qur’an which related with financial dealings and contracts. These are: †¢ †¢ †¢ Realization of fairness and justice Preservation of the rights and dues of all parties Paying zakah (that necessitates having accurate and just financial statements which represent accurately and truly the financial position of the entity)3. AAOIFI, Statement of Financial Accounting No. 2 Eltegani, Accounting postulates and principles from an Islamic Perspective, Review of Islamic Economics. page. 9 3 2 2 The first two Islamic principles are emphasized by the Holy Qur’an. It is instructed that measure and weight should be given with justice and without withholding from people what is theirs (QS 6:152, 7:29, 11:85, 17:35, 55:9, 57:25). In Surah Al-Baqarah verse 282, Muslims are asked to write down faithfully and precisely when dealing in financial transactions involving further obligation (debt). â€Å"O you who believe! When you deal with each other, in transactions involving future obligations in a fixed period of time, reduce them to writing† and â€Å"Let a scribe write down faithfully as between the parties† (QS 2:282) Therefore, Islam required accounting which helps to keep and record the rights and dues of all parties. The third principle, which is paying zakah is one of the pillars of Islam. Allah SWT requires Muslims with specified minimum wealth (nisab) to pay zakah. Having accurate and just financial statement is necessity to determine the amount of zakah. 3. The Concept of Accrual and Cash Basis Accounting The policy of recognizing revenue in the accounting records when it is earned and recognizing expenses when the related goods or services are used is called the accrual basis of accounting. The purpose of accrual accounting is to measure the profitability of the economic activities conducted during the accounting period. Accrual-basis accounting records financial events based on economic activity rather than financial activity. Under accrual accounting, revenue is recorded when it is earned and realized, regardless of when actual payment is received. 4 The most important concept involved in accrual accounting is the matching principle. Revenue is offset with all the expenses incurred in generating that revenue, thus providing a measure of the overall profitability of the economic activity. From Islamic 4 Jan R. Williams, et al. (2003). Financial Accounting, page. 104 3 perspective, the matching principle provides fairness and justice simultaneously to shareholders and depositors in Islamic banks. 5 An alternative for accrual basis is called cash basis accounting. Under cash basis accounting revenue is recognized when cash is collected from the customer, rather than when the company sells goods or rendered services. Expenses are recognized when payment is made, rather than when the related goods or services are used in business operations. The cash basis of accounting measures the amounts of cash received and paid out during the period, but it does not provide a good measure of the profitability of activities undertaken during the period. 6 Cash-basis accounting does not recognize promises to pay or expectations to receive money or service in the future, such as payables, receivables, and prepaid or accrued expenses. There are two types of cash-basis accounting: strict and modified. Strict cash basis records cash outflow and inflow only. Modified cash basis includes some elements from accrual basis, such as receivable and inventory. For example, the bank enter mudaraba contract with mudarib A for four years. In the first year, the mudarib declared profit but has not paid to the bank yet. In accrual basis, bank will record this share of profit as account receivable from mudarib A. In cash basis, bank would not record anything because there is not cash movement to or from the bank. If after the project finish, mudarib A still have outstanding balance, modified cash basis will recognize it as account receivable from mudarib A. Cash basis still does not record this event because there is not involve cash movement. 4. Choice of Cash or Accrual Basis Accounting Cash or accrual accounting has been the subject of discussion among Shariah jurist. Fiqh experts have determined that cash basis of accounting to be a mode of practice to account for Islamic transactions in the past. 5 Eltegani, Accounting postulates and principles from an Islamic Perspective, Review of Islamic Economics, page. 11 6 Jan R. Williams, et al. (2003). Financial Accounting, page. 104 4 The early mudaraba contract was conceived of â€Å"primarily as an instrument of singleventure commerce. It was, indeed, ideally suited for this purpose and was extensively used in this way†7. The accounting rules developed by early Islamic jurist for such single-ventures recommend a cash basis for the recognition of profit and stipulated that it should be realized and allocated between parties when the venture is terminated and the mudarib remits to the capital provider. The realization principle is considered acceptable from the Islamic viewpoint as far as recording of transactions are concerned. It is prudent to recognize revenue only when it is realized. But this convention might harm transitional investors who withdraw from investment. Depositors in some Islamic banks have the right to withdraw their funds at any time. Therefore, if some of them withdraw before the full liquidation of the project in which their funds or part of them have actually participated, they may lose all or part of the profit that might be realized in the future. 8 Mudaraba investment accounts in some Islamic banks are entitled to a part of the realized profits for the accounting period. Since these profits do include profits or loss of projects which are not yet liquidated, investors who withdraw at this stage may well not share in the profits of some of the projects in which their money have actually participated. Hence it may be argued that this conflicts with the requirement of justice and fairness. Co-mingling of funds in Mudaraba contracts, separate legal entity, going concern are concepts that cash accounting has failed to address completely but they exist in the Islamic banking business today. In Malaysia, modified cash accounting has been the basis of accounting used by Islamic bank as the Shariah council of the bank has permitted the use of modified cash accounting for the bank. 9 AAOIFI’s FAS 3 explains that realization profit is the time at which it can be established that profit is achieved in a Mudaraba.

These are detached subdivisions of a program’s corporate whole. which are downloaded into RAM as needed during the executing of the plan. Though RAM will overwrite â€Å"pages or segments† with new 1s. practical memory maintains all plan subdivisions intact during the plan processes. The transportation from practical memory to RAM is frequently called swapping. and continues until the plan is finished. Virtual memory allows the usage of more memory than is available entirely in RAM ; nevertheless. the trade-off is a slower executing of the plan. Modern runing systems allow the user to apportion specific sums of difficult thrust infinite for their practical memory demands. Another illustration of memory direction utilised but considered lasting / semi-permanent. is called the file system. File systems are stored on the difficult thrust. every bit good as on the chief. or â€Å"mother board† . File systems located on the female parent board are â€Å"burned† into memory. and can merely be modified within a limited discrepancy. They are portion of the computer’s basic input/output system ( BIOS ) . and command such things as system booting ( computing machine startup ) . and keyboard map. BIOS are besides called â€Å"firmware† . On the other manus. file systems stored on the difficult thrust are semi-permanent. and can be added. removed. or modified by the user. more or less at will. However. these files in the file system do non necessitate power to keep unity. That is. the computing machine can be powered down. without losing the information stored in the files located on the difficult thrust. Files located on the difficult thrust shop both plans. every bit good as informations to be utilized by said plans. These files are what the operating system draws upon in order to execute the maps required by the user. The concluding idea for this casual paper is the construct of buffering and spooling. Compared to current treating units. some input/output devices are highly slow ( such as pressmans. and the keyboard ) . Memory direction allows for moving as a â€Å"traffic cop† . to keep up slower and larger processing demands. and allow quicker and smaller demands to acquire to their finish. and so let the old plan demands to go on with their maps. For illustration. print instructions can be buffered in a â€Å"queue† . or keeping form. In fact. multiple print petitions can be buffered into a â€Å"queue† . without doing the processing unit to wait. for one map to complete. before go oning another. This is called â€Å"spooling† . Spooling prioritizes what â€Å"mac truck† goes foremost in the public presentation of a demand. without keeping up the processing unit. Hence the construct of memory direction being called the computer’s â€Å"traffic cop† . Mentions Morley. D. . Parker. C. S. . ( 2007 ) . Understanding Computers: Thomson CourseTechnology 11th Ed. Soccer Argumentative Essay Topics - The Best Essay Topic Ideas That Your High School or College Admissions Committee Will Want to Read

Soccer Argumentative Essay Topics - The Best Essay Topic Ideas That Your High School or College Admissions Committee Will Want to ReadUsing soccer argumentative essay topics to help you prepare for the SAT, whether in your high school or college admissions, is very important. The reason being is that, since it is an essay, there are a lot of things that you need to think about and take into consideration before you can write the essay properly. In this article, I will explain some of the topics that you should consider when writing the essay. One thing that you should always keep in mind, especially if you're preparing for college, is that you should avoid cliches. This is because soccer is a game that has many rules, which makes it a bit hard to break down into easy points. In order to make your arguments as compelling as possible, you need to be able to identify points that you can point out without using a stereotype. For example, there are several people who call soccer a 'footbal l'.However, people like you and me, refer to it as 'field ball' instead. When you're using this type of soccer argumentative essay topics, it is best that you to use the stereotype of the field ball when it comes to finding statistics or other kinds of information. Don't go too far with it, but that is what you should be using.Another important thing to keep in mind when you're writing soccer argumentative essay topics is to be sure that you address your topic in a way that makes sense. Never use any kind of word that sounds awkward when you're writing. In other words, don't ever say something like, 'a bunch of baby sluts' when you're trying to come up with ideas for the essay. You need to focus on writing about something that people actually use. If you say 'shoe ball', people won't be able to relate this to your subject. On the other hand, ifyou say 'field ball', then you will be able to make it sound more appropriate. When you're looking at the soccer argumentative essay topics, yo u should consider the different ways that people talk about the game. In fact, you can actually use the various ways people refer to the game to write about it. For example, you can say 'the ball floats around the field' when talking about a goal. In other words, make sure that you're aware of how to use this when you're writing your essay. This way, you will be able to achieve a certain level of perfection in your writing, while you're making a great impression on your potential employers.

Use of Quasiconcave Utility Functions in Economics

Use of Quasiconcave Utility Functions in Economics Quasiconcave is a mathematical concept that has several applications in economics. To understand the significance of the  terms applications in economics, it is useful to begin with a brief consideration of the origins and  meaning of the term in mathematics. Origins of the Term The term quasiconcave was introduced in the early part of the 20th century in the work of John von Neumann, Werner Fenchel and Bruno de Finetti, all prominent mathematicians with interests in both theoretical and applied mathematics, Their research in  fields such as probability theory, game theory and topology eventually laid the groundwork for an independent research field known as generalized convexity.  While the term quasiconcave: has applications in many areas, including economics, it originates in the field of generalized convexity as a topological concept. Definition of Topology Wayne State Mathematics Professor Robert Bruners brief and readable explanation of topology  begins with the understanding that topology is a special form of geometry. What distinguishes topology from other geometrical studies is that topology treats geometric figures as being essentially (topologically) equivalent if by bending, twisting and otherwise distorting them you can turn one into the other. This sounds a little strange, but consider that if you take a circle and begin squashing from four directions, with careful squashing you can produce a square. Thus, a square and a circle are topologically equivalent. Similarly, if you bend one side of a triangle until youve created  another corner somewhere along that side, with more bending, pushing and pulling, you can turn a triangle into a square. Again, a triangle and a square are topologically equivalent.   Quasiconcave as a Topological Property Quasiconcave is a topological property that includes concavity. If you graph a mathematical function and the graph looks more or less like a badly made bowl with a few bumps in it but still has a depression in the center and two ends that tilt upward, that is a quasiconcave function. It turns out that a concave function is just a specific instance of a quasiconcave function- one without the bumps. From a laypersons perspective (a mathematician has a more rigorous way of expressing it), a quasiconcave function includes all concave functions and also all functions that overall are concave but that may have sections that are actually convex. Again, picture a badly made bowl with a few bumps and protrusions in it.   Applications in Economics One way of mathematically representing consumer preferences (as well as  many other behaviors) is with a utility function. If, for example, consumers prefer good A to good B, the utility function U expresses that preference as:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  U(A)U(B) If you graph out this function for a real-world set of consumers and goods, you may find that the graph looks a bit like a bowl- rather than a straight line, theres a sag in the middle. This sag generally represents consumers aversion to risk. Again, in the real world, this aversion isnt consistent: the graph of consumer preferences looks a bit like an imperfect bowl, one with a number of bumps in it. Instead of being concave, then, its generally concave but not perfectly so at every point in the graph, which may have minor sections of convexity. In other words, our example graph of consumer preferences (much like many real-world examples) is quasiconcave.  They tell anyone wanting to know more about consumer behavior- economists and corporations selling consumer goods, for instance- where and how customers  respond to changes in good amounts or cost.

River Woods Case Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

River Woods Case - Assignment Example Once a horizontal powerbase is established, the employees will feel more inclined to work as a team and less inclined to go directly to the CEO, as would occur in a vertical power base. In order to assist in establishing a horizontal structure as quickly as possible, I plan to be a flexible and visible as I can, while setting clear expectations that all employees buy into and feel empowered by. In terms of weekly meetings, each employee needs to understand their role and what’s expected and single person has all of determinants or information. Clear communication channels will be established which include my office as the first stop for any new ideas or if employees are having problems. I plan to become more relevant to my employees by increasing the amount on which I rely on the concept of centrality or in other words, my network. As part of this strategy, I will be ad I will encourage my employees to display certificates for courses they completed and I will begin to show them my close relationship with the CEO to establish trustworthiness by demonstrating that I am indeed, close to the powerbase. This should help ease the problems and drive productivity up as everyone will feel more confident. The short answer is that the key to getting my management team on board with me is trickle up leadership and in order to â€Å"lead up†, it is time for me to speak up. My team needs to be refocused and the artificial constraints and excuses for the rise in customer complaints needs to be ended by renewing their dedication to the specialized role that them and their units play in this special company. I must act assertively to neutralize those individuals in my company who are having a toxic effect by being late or having attendance issues. This is an opportunity for employees to have input and take the lead in solving the issues and I will certainly be open and encouraging of any viable solutions

The Role of Information Security Policy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

The Role of Information Security Policy - Essay Example Regardless of all these, the essence for a security policy on information systems is unquestionable. These security policies and standards are of use to inform employees of firm their duties for protecting and safeguarding information systems of their organization. The policies state the mechanisms under which organizations can carry out these responsibilities. They also give an organization the baseline to get, configure and appraisal information systems for compliance with the policy in operation. The tools of information security system without its policy, it limits its usefulness. Policies and standards are essential in distributed computing location as a means of putting up security discipline for a big and different population of users that is reachable through formal auditing and communications. This strategy is of great importance when dealing with temporal personnel or those under contracts. Policies must show the accepted ways of an organization but also take full advantage of all methods for effecting behavior and spreading of information within a distributed computing location (James et al, 2012). Policies are of more importance in distributed computing locations than a centralized one due to the increased problems of restraining activities coming from a remote location. These policies must therefore be complete and stated clearly to minimize the number of instructions and explanations that the organization requires to handle so that they can be sure there is understanding. Here, they should have identifiers and description generally for business functions and units so that they can surpass changes of the organization (James et al, 2012). Employees play a major role in maintaining information system security. Their main role here is to study and have a close relationship with the IT section so that they can indulge when there is security incident. It is the responsibility of every employee to

Discuss the role of ideology in American-Russian relations between Essay - 1

Discuss the role of ideology in American-Russian relations between 1881 and 1920 - Essay Example The Americans viewed this act as exploratory, especially to their interests. The United States responded in a manner that was interpreted as interference by many players. This is the case when some countries in Asia and parts of Europe engaged in political revolutions as a way of solving some of their political problems. A variety of actors led to different ideologies concerning the American-Russian conflicts. Persons who ideologically believed that their differences formed the building blocks for cold war were orthodox, post-revisionist or revisionist.2 According to the orthodox view, the ideologies perpetuated by the Soviets were solely to blame for the initiation of cold war. These were specifically the Stalin and Lenin paranoia. In their view, the post revisionists felt that all these claims were entirely misconceptions and not true. Nonetheless, the Revisionist, better known as the ‘New Left’ held the view that the root cause of cold war was the United States’ hatred of communism.3 An additional important role arising from ideology informed the views of the U.S on the foreign revolutions. Initially, several countries where revolutions were taking place leaned towards communism. This made the US perceive such actions as instigated by Russia. Apparently, Russia had spread its influence to the Latin America, Austria-Hungary, Germany and France.4 Additionally, the Americans were not at peace because the Russians were emulating their actions by embracing similar strategies. These cycles of patterns that included the radical revolutions disillusioned the United Sates. The ideology also played a role in increasing fears in the United States over radicalism during the 1870s. The US felt that the urban working classes were increasingly becoming radicalized based on rapid industrialization. Other sources of fear were the coming into power of socialist and populist parties and unions across the globe.5 Ideology also pitted communism against capitalism in

Genetically Modified Organisms: Our Only Hope to Feed Seven Billion Peo

Modern Agriculture Farming experienced little change from the end of the medieval age until the middle of the twenty-first century. (Baker, 2014) When the tractor became the common farm tool and replaced the horse, crop yields remained much the same. (Baker, 2014) From 1866 until 1938, corn yields in the United States were reported at 30 bushels an acre. This, when compared to medieval yields, is not much higher than a good growing year in medieval times. (Baker, 2014) Innovation was drastically stalled by the Second World War and the Korean conflict. However, by 1951, crop yield began to steadily increase as new technologies like fertilizer and hybrid corn breeds became more readily available in the United States.(Baker, 2014) After the introduction of these innovations, corn yields in the United States, from 1952-present, showed an increased yield of 2 bushels an acre per year. (Baker, 2014) This simple increase, not only of corn, but other grain sources has led to a huge increase in the population of the world. The population has increased more rapidly in the last 200 years than any other time in history. This may seem like a relatively short time, but when compared to the history of agriculture this is a very short time period. Consider that it took over 1000 years for the world to reach a population of 1 billion and only 207 years to reach 7 billion. This is an exponential explosion in the population. Throughout history, agriculture, through several revolutions, has made it possible to sustain the world population. Through innovations such as the plow, crop rotation, and fertilizer, yields have grown and supported the population. But how will modern agriculture support a population of 7 billion people? Challenges Faced by Companies While Entering a Foreign Business

10 Important Factors to Consider Before Starting Your Own Business Published on May 10, 2008 by Educate And Learn in Small Business Comments (46)|59 Liked It Certain key factors which need to be addressed before starting your own business. This article describes different factors which need to be kept in mind before starting your own business. It mainly talks about a business from a proprietorship point of view, rather than from a corporate point of view. Thus it is intended for small business. A number of factors are important in order to start a successful business. Here an effort is made to describe some of the key factors.Knowledge/Expertise Any business requires some amount of basic knowledge and experience. The owner needs to be aware about the business he intends to start. Knowledge and expertise about the product or service are keys to a successful business. In case of limited knowledge the owner may not be able to sustain the business and can be fooled by the vendors, suppli ers and competitors. When you ask yourself a question â€Å"What business shall I start? † you need to get a convincing reply about what you intend to do and how you are going to go about it. Read more in Small Business Small Business Survival in a Down Economy Four Easy Ways to Double Your Economic Stimulus Check  » Expert knowledge is especially required if the field of business is a niche field. For instance the construction or software industry would require more knowledge as against a retail business selling a particular brand of clothes or shoes. Market/Demand Once a decision is taken on the business you intend to start, the next step is to explore the demand / market for the product / service. Certain products will only have a domestic market for them whereas others can be successful on an international level. The key question is â€Å"Who are the customers? † A market survey can be conducted to identify the market for the business to be started. If the product / service is expected to be sold locally, the demand for it needs to be assessed. In case an international market is expected then rules and regulations for dealing internationally need to be found out. Total Project Costs It is important to correctly assess the total project cost required to set up and run the business successfully. In a capital intensive business such as starting a manufacturing plant, the start up costs can be very high. You need to identify the total amount which will be spent on the land & building, plant & machinery, furniture and office equipment, vehicles etc. If a business is in the nature of retail you will need to identify the cost of the store and furniture. Amount required for the decoration of the store needs to be assessed. Similarly in case of an office the major cost will be for the furniture and office equipment. An office or firm can be started at a relatively lower cost initially with only the basic requirements. One also needs to take care of th e working capital requirement. This will mainly consist of the inventory which needs to maintained and the credit which is extended to the customers. From this the supplier’s credit is deducted to arrive at the Working Capital Requirement. The Working Capital Requirement can be quite high for certain industries for example inventory will need to be maintained in a garment store. Similarly in case of a grocery shop there is need for huge inventory for which credit may not be given initially by the suppliers. Financing/Capital After identifying the initial costs required for starting the business, the financing pattern will need to be decided. The financing pattern will be mainly by way of capital introduction by the owner and borrowed funds. Depending on how much capital the owner can introduce the balance amount will need to be borrowed. Funds borrowed will be either short term loans or long term loans. The terms and conditions for borrowing funds will need to be studied such a s the cost of borrowing, security required, rate of interest and the repayment terms. The owner will need to approach a number of banks to get information about their terms of lending and draw a comparative analysis to identify which funding is the most beneficial for him.As a thumb rule short term funds should not be utilized for the purchase of fixed assets. Short term funds are mainly used to meet the working capital requirement. The logic is that if short term funds are used to purchase fixed assets how are you going to repay the short term loan if the business has not progressed. Once the financing pattern is identified the owner will need to decide how the money is going to be utilized. Competition Before entering new business, information about market competition needs to be found out.In case a product is a monopoly then the competition will not matter. Otherwise the success of the business will depend upon the demand and supply gap. Thus if there is a huge demand then you ca n enter the business inspite of the market competition. Otherwise you will need to be stronger than the competitors to gain an entry. Normally existing firms will always have an advantage due to the experience they have and because they may be well equipped. The question which needs to be answered is â€Å"What is unique about the product / service which will be offered to survive the market competition†?Information such as who are the competitors, what is their market strategy and what factors are required to compete with them are important. Location Deciding an optimum location for the business is a strategic and an important one. A good location goes a long way in making the business successful. The location needs to be carefully chosen. Some places have advantages over the others. You can save out on taxes, water and electricity costs if you are located in some areas. The raw materials can be easily sourced, the manpower would be easily available and you can save out on t ransportation costs in case of certain locations.Setting up a business in certain location could lead to subsidy and rebates from the Government. In the case of a retail business one needs to be located in a well populated area and one which is easily accessible. Certain niche products / services of different competitors are available at a single location. For example there are software belts having all software companies. Similarly there are gold marts which have different gold vendors and jewelers at a single location. Laws, Rules, & Regulation Setting up a new business would require compliance with various laws & regulations. Each country is governed by separate laws and regulations which require that any new business be registered with certain authorities and meets certain compliance. Thus registration of the name of the company may be required with Ministry of Commerce for instance. Further details need to be provided regarding the workforce and certain deductions may be require d from the staff (such as tax) which would need to be deposited with the respected Government bodies. Awareness is required of such rules and regulations. It is always better to consult a lawyer before setting up a new business in an unknown environment. There are certain accounting / consultancy firms which would have a division giving advise on legal and statutory compliance. In case of lack of expertise it is better to approach a lawyer / accounting / consultancy firms. Non compliance with the statute could lead to huge fines and penalty and hamper the success of a new business. Return on Investment Return on Investment (ROI) is calculated as Net Profit divided by the Investment made. The ROI is low in the initial years and is expected to grow on a year on year basis. The ROI needs to be compared with the return that would be earned from alternative business options available. For instance it could be compared with any other source of income such as money earned from investment in the stock market. Similarly the Return On Capital must be greater than the rate of interest earned from a fixed deposit kept with a bank. Staff/Manpower Any business requires efficient manpower to succeed. The staff needs to be carefully chosen since they are the ones who could make or break the business. The cost of manpower varies depending on the location of the business and thus this needs to be factored well. The business needs to be set up in a location where there is sufficient availability of manpower both skilled as well as unskilled. This remains one of the key criteria’s whether the business is going to be run with a staff of 2 or 2,000. Technology It is always better to invest in the best technology at the time of start up itself. Post investment, monitoring of the technology purchased is required. Technology would include plant & machinery as well as latest office equipment. One should not exclude the software required to monitor the business. Choosing optimum sof tware is a challenging task.A technologically advanced business is expected to perform much better in the longer run. All the above factors are important to start a successful business. Compromising any of these factors could hamper the growth. Starting a business these days is very challenging and an all round knowledge of various factors is required to run a successful one. It is important to make a Project Report on the basis of the above factors before starting a new business.
